Dear Prospective Cub Scout Parent,
In Cub Scouts your child will have lots of fun, learn new things and make new friends. But Cub Scouts is much more than this. Everything they do in Cub Scouts — ceremonies, earn awards, sports, games and crafts — will be done with a specific purpose in mind. Take a look at the 12 Core Values that Cub Scouting strives to teach:
Citizenship, Compassion, Cooperation, Courage, Faith, Health and Fitness, Honesty, Perseverance, Positive Attitude, Resourcefulness, Respect, and Responsibility
We strive to reinforce the values that the youth are taught at home.
Scouting America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. SA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.
For nearly a century, the BSA/SA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. Scouting America believes — and through nearly a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.
About Cub Scout Pack 86
We meet during the school year on Tuesdays, 6:30-7:30pm, 1st and 2nd Tuesdays for den meetings at the Stanwood United Methodist Church (one block west of 102nd Ave - behind Norgaard Center and the Stanwood Museum) and 4th Tuesdays for Pack meetings at Stillaguamish Grange Hall (at the Stanwood Fairgrounds). Den meetings are where each den meets separately to do activities appropriate to their rank. We go on outings at least once per month, usually during the 3rd week of the month, often on a weekend. We are chartered by the Stanwood-Camano Kiwanis Club which also sponsors the local Scouts BSA Troop 86 B and 86 G.
We encourage family participation . . . Cub Scouting is a family program. Parents and siblings are welcome to attend and stay during all activities of the Pack and Dens. Many of the requirements for rank advancement involve doing things with family, in addition to what the scouts do during the weekly den meetings.
Our program is year-round, youth can join us at any time of the year. Youth move up to the next rank each June so they spend the summer beginning in their new rank. We try to do at least two activities each month during the summer, including attending Day Camp for a week during the summer.
Kindergartners are Lions and need an adult partner to attend activities and events with them. 1st graders are Tiger Cubs and need an adult partner to attend all activities and events with them. 2nd graders are Wolf Cubs. 3rd graders are Bear Cubs. 4th graders are Webelos, and 5th graders are Arrow of Light, which is the period of transition from Cub Scouts to Scouts BSA. At the end of their 5th grade year or upon earning their Arrow of Light rank, they can choose to crossover to one of the local Scouts BSA Troops.
